Filtering Signals

Filtering Signals

This unit focuses on how to construct and apply filters to signals in Python. The local field potential (LFP) is obtained from the extracellular potential by applying a low-pass filter to the recorded signal, and getting the signal in specific frequency band is a standard method in investigating the LFP. Therefore, you will learn how to construct and visualize low-pass, band-pass, and high-pass filters and study their effects both on toy signals and on real recorded extracellular potentials. You will also see how filters can be used to remove signal artifacts with notch or narrow band-stop filters and how the power in different frequency bands (delta, theta, alpha, beta, gamma) can be associated with behavioural data.
